Case report: Basivertebral nerve block during vertebral augmentation: an alternative approach to intraprocedural pain management

چکیده

Osteoporotic compression fractures can be treated with vertebral augmentation. Since intraprocedural pain is common during body endplate manipulation, these procedures are often performed conscious sedation or general anesthesia. Research has shown that endplates innervated by the basivertebral nerve (BVN), which been successfully targeted via radiofrequency ablation to treat chronic vertebrogenic lower back pain. With this physiology in mind, we evaluated if temporary BVN block would provide sufficient analgesia so patients could forego percutaneous Ten single-level were selected. Prior balloon augmentation, intraosseous was achieved using 2% lidocaine injection. All ten completed their procedure without sedative narcotic medications, and significant deviation from baseline vital signs. Temporary used as anesthesia select who may poor candidates for sedation.

[Accidental spinal block during vertebral artroplasty: case report.].

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Vertebral artroplasty with bone cement has its particularities and complications. Most often the procedure is performed under local anesthetic and sedation, but sometimes it is done under subarachnoid or epidural block with morphine to achieve postoperative analgesia. The objective of this report is to discuss the possible complications of vertebroplasties. CASE REPO...

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation: an alternative approach to the management of postoperative pain.

HE MANAGEMENT of postoperative pain has T been and continues to be a significant problem in surgical practice in terms of both the additional stress it places on the patient’s physiologic reserves and the symptomatic discomfort it causes. It is well known by practitioners that pain is an individual experience and this fact is reflected in a wide variation in the incidence and severity of pain a...

Evaluation and Interventional Management of Pain After Vertebral Augmentation Procedures

INTRODUCTION A small subset of patients who underwent successful vertebral compression fracture (VCF) augmentation procedures may develop subsequent pain requiring spinal injections. In a retrospective analysis, we determined whether the pain was related to the original fracture site or to another area within the lumbar or thoracic spine. The pain occurred either at the same/adjacent level and/...

Cement leakage and complication of liposarcoma spinal metastasis during vertebral augmentation procedure: a case report

BACKGROUND Liposarcoma is a malignant tumor of soft tissue. Myxoid/round cell liposarcoma has a tendency to spread to extrapulmonary sites but the spine is an unusual location even for metastasis. Metastatic bone tumors in the spine are painful. The vertebral body augmentation procedures for treating painful metastatic spinal lesions are minimally invasive and are good alternatives to open surg...
